Our Progress and Achievements '2009

January 2009
The beginning of the year was marked with a new stage of the company's development, namely, OPTEC LLC became Carl Zeiss Company's successor in January 2009. The company's philosophy is a complex integration of high-technology innovative decisions in such fields as practical and fundamental medicine, research science and education, innovative industry and production in the territories of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries.



February 2009
- The Eye Diseases Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Baku) was comprehensively equipped to the amount of 1.6 mio EURO, including the first femtosecond laser VisuMax delivery.
- One of the leading clinics in the Republic of Turkmenistan (Ashkhabad) was equipped with multi-function surgery microscopes.
- A ceremony of conferring name diplomas of 'Carl Zeiss' grants winners was held for young scientists with Saint-Petersburg State University, University of ITMO, and MSU. Altogether, the enterprise allotted over 2 million roubles for grants to 32 laureates from 11 higher education institutions.
- Agreements on strategic partnership were made with leading universities of the Republic of Tatarstan: Kazan State Technical University, Kazan State University, and Kazan Scientific Centre with the RAS. Development of new research and education technologies are envisaged within the frames of these agreements.

Within the context of expansion of the solutions we offer, the last month culminated in conclusion of an exclusive agreement with Thermo Fischer Scientific on Immunohistochemistry reagents marketing for use in clinical studies, as well as the accompanying appliances.
Under this agreement we gained the right to non-exclusive sale of appliances and instruments of SHANDON brand in the sphere of anatomy pathology medicine in the territory of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Thus, having reached these agreements, OPTEC Company obtained a unique line for complex solution of the objective on modern equipment for anatomy pathology departments.

March 2009
- A planetarium with Space Gate Quinto projector from Carl Zeiss was opened in the city of Kaluga (Russia). On March 5, 2009, new equipment produced by Carl Zeiss was presented at the planetarium of Kaluga State Astronautics History Museum after K. E. Tsiolkovsky, which enables to demonstrate full-spherical show-programmes imitating the real presence in space for the visitors.
- A joint research and education centre of Carl Zeiss Company and Novosibirsk State Technical University was opened. Opening of the Centre of Optical and Electron Microscopy of Carl Zeiss Company and NSTU took place on March 4, 2009.
- Reception for dealers from Moscow was held at Igor Butman's jazz-club.

April 2009
- Participation in exhibition 'High Tech of 21st Century' with the most interesting and bright mount.
- The book 'Scanning Probe Microscopy and Electron Probe Microanalysis' were published. Authors: Krishtal, M. M., Yasnikov, I. S., Polunin, V. I., Filatov, A. M., and Uiyanenkov, A. G.
- The 2nd International Conference 'Far East Research Centre of the FESU jointly with FEFD RAS is the leading scientific integrator of new methods for investigation of nanostructures introduction' dedicated to 110th anniversary of the FESU foundation in Vladivostok. Scientists from Singapore, Germany, Great Britain, and Russia were among the participants.
- It was resolved to organise a representative office in Kazan and register a subsidiary in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Anniversary issue No. 50 of newspaper "Zeiss Сегодня" (Zeiss Today) released.


May 2009
- The agreement for cooperation with Veeco Company was concluded. Veeco Company is the world leader in development and manufacture of atomic-force/scanning probes microscopes (AFM/SPM). From now on, our company is an exclusive Veeco representative on sales and maintenance of these systems in the CIS. In addition to the principal product, OPTEC Company embarked on selling high-accuracy high-quality contact probes, a.k.a. cantilevers for all models of atomic-forced microscopes from any manufacturers.

June 2009
- OPTEC Company held seminars for dealers on medical equipment and microscopy, as well as on a new line - "Complex solutions on equipment for anatomy pathology departments".

July 2009
- OPTEC Company announces the start of the Second competition of grants competitors within the frames of the Program on support to young researchers of Russian universities.

August 2009
- The first surgical microscope of a new generation in ophthalmology "OPMI Lumera i" was installed in Lugansk clinic (Ukraine).

September 2009
- The agreement for cooperation is signed between OPTEC LLC and Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis Limited Company (Great Britain). Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis Ltd. is one of the world leaders specialising in development, manufacture, sale and service support of high-accuracy instruments for electron-probe microanalysis.
- 'Innovation' mammalogy clinic is opened in Ukraine, where the first system for intraoperative radiotherapy INTRABEAM in Ukraine was installed.

October 2009
- The agreement for cooperation with Eppendorf Company (Germany) is signed. Eppendorf Company produces equipment which is usefully employed in genetic research, cell and gene engineering, immunochemistry, medical research, forensics and medicolegal investigation, and laboratories for quality control at enterprises of pharmaceutical and food industries.

November 2009
- On the base of the strategy of the company's development in the market of Kazakhstan, OPTEC Limited Liability Company was officially registered to succeed OPTEC Company's affiliate in Kazakhstan, Alma-Ata.
- Thermo Fisher Scientific Company concludes an agreement with OPTEC LLC for supply of equipment for cancer diagnostics within the frames of the National Oncologic Program.
- A decision is made to cease eyewear activities after January 1, 2010.

December 2009
- Results were summarised of Carl Zeiss grant competition held within the frames of the Programme of Support to Young Researches.
- An agreement is signed for cooperation between OPTEC LLC and UFSK-International OSYS GmbH Company (Germany). UFSK-OSYS Company is a subdivision of UFSK concern engaged in development of operating tables for ophthalmology surgery, as well as armchairs of various modifications for surgeons and assistants.
- The Interdisciplinary Resource Centre for 'Nanotechnology' line created under the National Program 'Development of nano-industry infrastructure' was opened in Saint-Petersburg State University.
Helium and ion microscope ORION produced by 'Carl Zeiss' and unparalleled in Russia was installed at IRC. International Conference 'State-of-the-art trends of scientific researches of artificial and natural of nanoobjects' (STRANN) was conducted.
